Having a Linksys router is really a luxury because of how advanced some of its features are, as well as how fast its internet (both Wi-Fi and Ethernet) connections can be.
But this doesn’t mean that it’s very easy to set up, which is why we’ve made this guide article to show you all the steps you need to go through in order to properly set your wireless router up.
Linksys wireless G routers have a lot of tricks up their sleeves. They allow you to connect multiple computers to the same internet connection without having to be connected to a broadband modem.
Not only that, you can connect many other devices to the same internet such as your gaming console, smartphones and tablets.
You can also connect some of your Bluetooth enabled devices to the internet through the router.
Let’s jump right ahead and see what you should do in order to set your router up!
Linksys Wireless G Router Setup
In order to connect your computer to the modem using ethernet technology, grab your ethernet cable and connect one end to the ethernet port on your computer, and the other the modem’s internet port.
When it comes to connecting the broadband modem to the router, all you have to do is connect your computer’s ethernet cable to one of the router’s ethernet ports and you’re done.
Now it is time to plug your router in and turn it on. After a few seconds, all the LED lights should be on and they will indicate which state your router and internet are in.
After you open your browser on your computer (make sure the computer is connected to the router), go to http://192.168.1.1 and you will see the Linksys router’s setup page.
You will be asked for a username and password, by default they are always set to “admin” for both the username and password.
Now you need to look for the option that says “Local IP Address” on the router’s interface page, and then change it to “19216811” (without quotations) and then save your changes.
After that, go to “DHCP renew”, and enter the following address “http:192.168.2.1” into the address bar that you see.
Now go to the “Status” tab and make sure that the numbers are listed after the IP Address. If you see numbers in there, that means that you’re good to go and your computer will successfully connect to the internet.
But, if you see only zeros in there, this means that there are some problems and you need to follow these following steps in order to fix it.
First, you need to go to “DHCP Release”, and then to “DHCP Renew”. After that, enter this address to the address bar once more “http://192.168.2.1” and then find the “Internet Connection Type” on the router’s interface page and pick “PPoE” and the drop down menu.
Finally, enter the username and password that your internet service provider has provided you with and then hit Save.
You can now go and check the “Status” tab and it should say “Connected”. When you see this, know that you’re good to go once again and that everything is working properly.
